The NVQ in management at Level 4 is for you if you are a manager with responsibility for:

  • allocating work to others
  • achieving specific results by using resources effectively
  • carrying out policy in your defined area of authority controlling limited financial budgets, and contributing to broader activities, such as change programmes and recruitment

How long does it take?

Although there are no set timetables for obtaining an NVQ in Management Level 4, most managers take between 9 months and 18 months. However, it is a good idea to agree an assessment plan with your adviser and assessor - this will provide you with a target to achieve and some milestones against which you can measure your progress. Changes in your work or personal circumstances can always be accommodated by re-negotiating this plan.

The award has 5 Mandatory Units:

  • Manage activities to meet requirements (A2)
  • Contribute to improvements at work (A4)
  • Develop your own resources (C2)
  • Develop productive working relationships (C5)
  • Provide information to support decision-making (D4)

Plus EITHER

  • Manage the use of physical resources (B2) OR
  • Manage the use of financial resources (B3)

Plus another 3 units from the following :

  • Select personnel for activities (C8)
  • Develop teams and individuals to enhance performance (C10)
  • Manage the performance of teams and individuals (C13)
  • Respond to poor performance in the team (C15)
  • Facilitate meetings (D2)
  • Provide advice and support for the development and implementation of quality policies (F2)
  • Implement quality assurance systems (F4)
  • Monitor compliance with quality systems (F6)
  • Carry out quality audits (F7)
  • Contribute to project planning and preparation (G1)
  • Co-ordinate the running of projects (G2)
  • Contribute to project closure (G3)

All Management programmes are tailored to the individual candidate’s needs and the requirements of the organisation.

What happens after completion of the NVQ?

The award of your qualification is the cause of some celebration! It is confirmation that you perform competently in your job and that you are working to national standards and best practice. It also provides you with a model of learning, and the skills to adapt to meet the challenges of the changing world of the future.
