This award is designed for support service workers in the following roles: Porters, Security staff, Housekeepers, Laundry workers, Caterers, Cleaners, Health records workers, Transportation
What qualifications are available?There is a single NVQ at Level 2 which is made up of four core units and four optional units from a group of thirty.
The four core units are:
- Foster people’s equality, diversity and rights
- Contribute to the effectiveness of teams
- Promote, monitor and maintain health, safety and security in the workplace
- give customers a positive impression of yourself and your organisation
The remaining four units are selected from a further list of optional thirty units which cover all the job roles above.
The NVQ in Support Services in Health Care is based on the national occupational standards, developed by Skill for Health. The award has some units in common with NVQs in a wide range of sectors from care to customer service and cleaning.
Learners who achieve these units within the NVQ in Support Services in Health Care gain credit towards other NVQs in which the units appear and vice versa. This means that they can more easily progress or develop their career.
The learner’s skills and knowledge are assessed in the actual workplace and they must be working in a real health care setting on a full or part time basis or on a paid or voluntary basis.
